Excerpt from Message

6/10 Borges Hotel Pat, Larry, el al – Arrived here this A.M. 5:00. Our rooms weren’t available ‘til 11:00, so after a rest in the salon we went walking thru this Alfama district all the way up miles of narrow winding streets to the Castel S. Jorge – The ruins of a castle + Fort dating from the Moors. The view was simply breathtaking! All of Lisbon could be seen, the Tagus River + the port. The castle was beautiful – overgrown with lush vines – many white peacocks and swans around which we fed crackers and cheese I had in my bag. Rich refused to walk any further so we took a cab home. That was the most hair-raising exp. ever!! – Kathleen
