Excerpt from Message

My dear May: This is an enchanting place, but too hot even for one who has lived in Missouri. The nights are divine, especially where there is moonlight seen through the palms on the ocean. Most of the intertaining naturally is at nights. The natives sing sweet plantive voices. The words on inclosed card are sung to a charming melody and is very popular. We have been entertained by every one from the Gov. down. We sail on 30th & spend Sept. in California. Both well. Love to you & Mother Aug. 23. 1923 Nellie
