Recorded history in New mexico dates back to the year 1540 when the Governor of Mexico commissioned Coronado to explore the country and search for the mythical El Dorado. Albuquerque consists of two towns, old Albuquerque and new Albuquerque. The old town was founded in 1701 and there one may still see the quaint old Spanish quarters with it's endless maze of streets and adobe houses. The new town, founded twenty-five years ago, is a model city.
