Caption

This is a gash in the level plain, 550 feet wide and 22 feet deep. It has the appearance of a volcanic rent in the earth's crust. Through the notch at the bottom a thread of a stream trickles. It is crossed by a steel bridge 225 feet high and 600 feet long.
