Abstract

The purpose of my action research study is to better understand the ways in which graduate students in the Higher Education Leadership Masters Degree Program at the University of San Diego (USD) understand feminism and the integration of feminism in their daily work. To explore this I utilized four cycles of appreciative inquiry action research specifically questioning how I as a student affairs practitioner, alongside my colleagues, can intentionally integrate feminism into my daily work? With this question at the forefront of my research I further explored how graduate students understand feminism in relation to the university itself, student advising and student leadership development. In doing this work I have uncovered that intentional integration of feminism encourages graduate students pursuing careers in higher education to reflect deeply on their own identities and privileges while working to ensure that they are meeting the needs of their students.
