Description, Abstract, or Artist's Statement
As part of a pilot approach to proactive collection development, the University of San Diego Library conducted a benchmarking study of library databases to identify gaps in the library’s support of the USD Knauss School of Business (KSB)’s curriculum and programs. Co-located in the business school, the new embedded librarian for KSB presented a unique opportunity to evaluate and enhance business collections and to seek buy-in from leadership and direct feedback about faculty needs. The study opened surprising pathways for collaboration and relationship-building between library departments, business faculty, campus leadership, and new vendors. This presentation will cover the background and context of the KSB benchmarking project, establishing guidelines for managing vendor interactions, outcomes from discussions and surveys with the business school, and laying the foundation for a new communication model for conversations around library resources.
