Abstract
With rapid advancements in technology, Americans are more plugged-in than ever before. Adolescents are spending an average of nine hours engaged with media every day. The more they are plugged in the less connected they are to nature and the combined effects of this are negatively impacting their mental and physical well-being. We are seeing higher instances of attention disorders, anxiety, depression and childhood obesity.
Nature Unplugged offers services that help youth cultivate a healthier relationship with technology and reconnect with nature. Based on conscious leadership and authentic leadership theories, we built an eight-module curriculum that we piloted in two different ways: an eight-month e-learning program and an intensive outdoor retreat.
