Description

An engraved pictorial bookplate on sepia tinted paper with black ink. There's a passage written in Latin "'Delectant libri prosperitate feliciter arridente; consolantvr individve nvbila fortvna terrente' De Bvry", the first part being everything before the semicolon translates to "They delight in the prosperity of books, smiling happily". Framing the passage is a minimal calligraphic border. Above it is an open book with a man's portrait on the right page. On top of the book is a candlelight and beside the open book are more books standing up with spines facing out. Below the passage are a bunch of lillies and a naked woman kneeling on one knee. She has a leaf crown and a harp in her hand. There are two dramatic facial expression masks facing away from each other. The bookplate says "Ex Libris Edwin B. Holden", ex libris is used to identify the owner of the bookplate.
