Description

A pictorial/armorial bookplate light sepia tinted paper for Frederick Willis Davis. This bookplate is an open book with an image on the left page and words on the right page. On the left is a statue of a man and is captioned "Here once the embattled farmers stood, and fired the shot heards round the world" There is a wreath floating above the statue's head with lights of beam drawn. On both the right and left side are tall candles with banners wrapped around them listing the names "Emerson Longfellow Whittier Alcott Holmes Hawthorne Lowell Thoreau". On the bottom it says "Old books Old prints Old friends". The right page says "'A good book is the precious life blood of a master spirit'" and a crest and more information, Brooklyn, N.Y. 1907.
