Abstract
This Essay addresses the concept of "first amendment overbreadth." The author attempts to provide a formal definition of overbreadth and discusses ways in which a statute can be overbroad and why overbreadth might be of concern. The author then proposes a formulation of the first amendment overbreadth doctrine that responds to that concern.
