Excerpt from Message

June 2nd / We saw this temple yesterday. It is situated on a promontory over the sea about 50 miles from Athens. It commands a wonderful view of the coast line and the islands. In ancient Grecian times it was the outpost fortress against invaders, and the Athenians were warned by a series of fires that were lighted on strategic hills all the way to Athens. At sunset it is a most beautiful sight. What artists the ancient Greeks were! Nothing like it since. Love, Virginia.
