Excerpt from Message

The high one near Lucerne by train & then up at a 45 degree angle by cog wheel car [illegible] many peaks, including [illegible]. Some queer animals in the show – rodent the – also rather tame black howler –like birds. Flowers in patches where snow has melted. Nice crowd aboard – many Americans, some English & Swiss. What news Ann! Below are lilies, wisteria, buttercups, dandelions, daisies, pink clover, tulips, wild lupine, fruit trees in blossom, white & pink! chestnut blossoms. Everyone says this is the month to travel for spring time beauty – and fewer tourists. They’ll be deluged with tourists next month July & August – reservations closed already. Love to you & Nona, Maria (world’s steepest cog-wheel railway)
