Description

An etched pictorial bookplate on light sepia paper with black ink, commissioned for Armin Otto Leushner, a UC Berkeley professor of science. A telescope sitting on a book is in the center in a circular bubble. The top right is a University of Michigan crest and on the top left is the seal of the University of California crest written in Latin. There's banners in front of both crests. In front of the left crest written in Latin is "AD ASTRA" and the translation is "to the stars". In front of the right crest written in Latin is "PER ASPERA" translating to "by rough". Bottom left is a bubble with James Craig Watson's (written under the portrait) side profile picture. The bottom right has an image of a woman with the words "National Academy of the United States of America. Founded 1863." written in a circle that surrounds the woman. In between these two images are two banners saying "EX LIBRIS". The bottom of the bookplate has the name "Armin Otto Leushner" written with + like bubbles in between each word.
