Description
A pictorial bookplate in black ink on white paper depicts a dignified portrait of Samuel Freeman Hersey, surrounded by a neoclassical frame and a laurel wreath. A female figure is on one side holding a lit lamp, and another figure on the opposite side reading a book by torchlight. The inscription "BANGOR PUBLIC LIBRARY ESTABLISHED A.D. 1883" and "FROM THE HERSEY FUND" imply the bookplate commemorates the Hersey family's contribution to the library.
