Description
A pictorial bookplate in black ink on cream paper, featuring a detailed image within a decorative border. The top portion displays the text "Harvard College Library" beneath a classic ornamental header with the word "VERITAS" inside a shield. The central image is a pastoral scene of a stately building, possibly a library, with figures in front and a flag atop, set against a cloudy sky. Sheep graze in the foreground. Below the scene, a shield bearing the motto "PRAESTO PRO PATRIA" is positioned above the inscription "IN MEMORY OF JOHN HAYS GARDINER CLASS OF 1885".
