Description

A pictorial bookplate in black ink on beige paper displays an arch with two angels holding an open book. Beneath the arch, the phrase "PRO CHRISTO ET VERITATE SUA" is inscribed, which translates to "For Christ and His truth." Below this, a large, ornate rectangular frame contains the text "THE NEWTON THEOLOGICAL INSTITUTION THE LIBRARY THE GIFT OF." A Chi Rho symbol, an early Christogram, is featured in the lower central ornament. The bookplate is signed "S.L.S. July 1898."
