Fish on First

Abstract

In this short essay I examine Stanley Fish's views on freedom of speech and particularly the relation of freedom of speech to the curricula and practices of public universities. Although I agree with most of what Fish asserts, I find that speech by governmental entities such as public universities reveals a deep paradox, one that pervades liberalism itself.
