Madame John's Legacy, 623 Dumaine Street, is the oldest building in the Mississippi Valley immortalized by Washington Cable's Creole stories. Captain Jean Pascal, first owner, came to New Orleans in 1726; lived here until slain in the Indian massacre of 1729.
