Description
This project surveys the work of a selection of female Iranian artists active in the Post-revolutionary era. I was fascinated to see if their experiences while coming of age in Iran during this time helped shape their work. I wanted to see if it created cohesion in their works, that these events created a link to all their works together. This survey includes artists who produced work in and outside of Iran. This study is meant to highlight the work of artists who are not as well-known, expounding on these artists’ work to demonstrate the importance of their voices in the larger conversation of the Iranian art world. Though all artists have varying approaches to their works almost all are in conversation with one another, and center around one thing, women. What is a woman’s experience to live in Iran? What are the societal pressures of domestic life? How has their life been altered by the events of the revolution and war?
