Caption
On Monterey Peninsula, there are three organized communities, Monterey, Pacific Grove and Carmel. In addition to these there is the Hotel del Monte and their properties. Monterey is one of the most picturesque of American cities. It is known as the city of three flags and the cradle of American history and romance. The American flag was first raised in July 1846- making this U.S. possession and in Sept. 1849 the first capitol was located here. Pacific Grove is a beautiful city of homes, on the northern top of the peninsula. Carmel is a picturesque town located in a dense pine forest with a beautiful bay frontage and a mountainous background. This quaint village has become nationally known as an artists colony.
