Abstract
Recognizing the need for a more robust digital preservation beyond simple backups, in fall of 2012 the Robert E. Kennedy Library (REKL) began investigating long term digital preservation methods for their growing digital collection. Ideally, the preservation solution would cover not only purchased content, but locally-created content from such disparate sources as the institutional repository, special collections, and data services. The presenter will discuss the importance of digital preservation beyond backups, the process used to determine REKL’s need for digital preservation and the digital networks available, and the reasons for their decision to pursue MetaArchive as their digital preservation solution.
