Description

An engraved pictorial bookplate on sepia tinted paper with black ink for Henry Rogers Winthrop. There's a man sitting in the grass reading a book and there's a bunny running across. Framing the image is a calligraphic border that flows into the background with flowers. Above the image is a crest with the mythical creature, Griffin, and a saying in Latin "Spes vincit thronum" (Hope conquers the throne). Bordering the whole bookplate is a border with words in Latin "---haec studia so-lacivm praebent delectant dominon impedivnt foris pernoctant nobiscum peregrinantvr rvsticantur" (these studies provide solice, they delight in the dominion of the obstacle for the night, they are traveling with us).
