Description

A pictorial/heraldic bookplate in black ink on off-white paper. The design features an elaborate frame with scrollwork and floral elements. The central circular image depicts Goodrich Castle in a detailed landscape setting. Below the circular image is a heraldic shield displaying a lion and various decorative elements, with the motto “Fortior Justus Leone” inscribed on a banner. Surrounding the shield are stacks of books and an open book, symbolizing knowledge and learning. The name “George S. Goodrich” is inscribed on a banner that curves around the circular image. The artist’s signature, “J.W. Spenceley, Boston 1905,” is located at the bottom center of the bookplate.
