Description

A pictorial bookplate in sepia ink on off-white paper. The design features an ornate frame with detailed scrollwork and floral elements. At the top, within a circular banner, is an open book with the inscription “WITH MY FRIEND AND MY BOOK I WALK THROUGH THE FOREST OF ARDEN.” Surrounding this central motto are the names of notable authors: “Balzac,” “Lytton,” “Eliot,” “Van Dyke,” “Mabie,” and “Ruskin.” Below, an open window reveals a scenic landscape of a path leading through fields and hills. The interior scene includes a cozy nook with cushions and a stack of books on a bench. At the bottom, the text “Ex Libris Georgia Medora Lee” is prominently displayed. The artist’s signature, “J.W. Spenceley Sept. 1903,” is located at the bottom center of the bookplate.
