Description

What does it mean to practice comics librarianship within a framework of critical librarianship? This roundtable panel will address themes of critical librarianship and comics, continuing discussions raised in the 2019 publication "Comics and Critical Librarianship: Reframing the Narrative in Academic Libraries" and in the wider body of scholarship on critical librarianship and comics studies. Moderated by Stephanie Grimm, this panel will feature several speakers who contributed to the original publication: Andrew Wang (North Carolina Museum of Art), Jenny Robb and Caitlin McGurk (Billy Ireland Cartoon Museum and Library @ the Ohio State University), Kai Alexis Smith (MIT), and Mara Thacker (University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign). These speakers will engage in a discussion of how their approaches have adapted and evolved in the intervening years, including exhibition and collecting practices.
