General View of Theme Center and surrounding Area – New York World's Fair 1939 – General View of the Theme Center – New York World's Fair 1939 – Dominating the scene are the 700- foot Trylon, which serves as a beacon and as a part of the public address system, and the 18-story Perisphere, within which visitors view from a revolving platform a dramatization of the World of Tomorrow. Clusters of fountains screen the piers which support the great sphere so that it appears to be poised on jets of water.
