St. Louis Cathedral, Jackson Square, New Orleans, LA. St. Louis Cathedral, New Orleans, La. The historic St. Louis Cathedral was erected in 1718 by Don Almonester y Roxas, a wealthy Spaniard, who donated it to the parish. Rebuilt 1720, present building 1794. The tombs of the Marignys lie beneath the floor in front of the altar.
