Lick Observatory on Mt. Hamilton, Altitude 4,209 Feet, Near San Jose, California – The Lick Observatory is under the direction of the Department of Astronomy at the University of California. It is easily reached by highway from San Jose. The Observatory is equipped with 12 inch and 36 inch telescopes which rank among the finest in the world for astronomical observation.
