This postcard collection depicts the 1900 Exposition Universelle Internationale held in Paris from April 15th to November 12th during that year. Ambitious in scope and international in spirit, the exposition celebrated the achievements of the past, contemporary culture, and current technological innovations. Unfortunately, it also suffered from exorbitant organizational expenses that even attendance by over fifty million visitors could not assuage. While the exposition may have failed its investors, these postcard images succeed in providing us with a glimpse of the world on the edge of the Twentieth Century -- just ahead of the rapid change that this exposition anticipated.
