Caption

The Macaulay – Ardincaple [sic] Castle – The Macaulay. This is a small clan which in former days inhabited the district of Kintail and afterwards settled at Ardincaple [sic] Castle, a handsome turreted mansion erected in the 12th century in the western extremity of Dumbartonshire, which, however, has long passed out of the family. The famous historian Lord Macaulay was of this line. A branch settled in Ireland in the county of Antrim. The badge is "Scotch Fir" or "Cranberry."
