Fan Palms at sunset in California - The Fan Palm, so typical of California scenery, is the only palm native to the western United States. They grow to be over 70 feet tall and about 200 years old. The Cahuilla Indians ate the sweet, thin, pulp of the fruit and ground the hard, pea-sized seeds into flour.
