Tonto Cliff Dwellings - The Tonto Cliff Dwellings seen on the Apache Trail of Arizona-were discovered in ruins in 1540 by the Spanish explorer Francisco Vasquez de Coronado. These ancient dwellings are built like swallows nests in the niches of the canyon walls, and can be visited by a short detour from the Roosevelt Lake, on the Apache Trail auto trip between Globe and Phoenix.
